For weeks at Lindy’s General Store in Pembroke, Massachusetts, customers had been putting money into a can on the counter top to support Paula’s People. Paula’s People is a family team representing Paula Swanson, a victim of breast cancer. The team was planning to enter a road race that raises money in the fight against breast cancer.

Paula herself had been a regular customer at Lindy’s for many years. 10 days before Paula passed away, a delivery man was caught on tape stealing the donation’s can from the store’s counter. “It’s a disgusting act,” said Josh Worrall, the owner of the store.

The store’s surveillance cameras caught the whole misdeed on tape and revealed that the suspect was a delivery man bringing supplies to the store.

“There’s been a lot of reaction around the store,” Worrall said. “You’d think someone who would do that would be so down and out – but this guy was working when he did it.”

As despicable as this crime was, Worrall says that this isn’t the first time the store has had experience this kind of theft. In 2005, a thief broke in at night and stole a jug filled with $800 of donations for Hurricane Katrina Victims. After that robbery, the store began to use smaller collections cans in order to minimize the amount of loss if a theft would ever again take place.
