Now with GPS technology, baggage handlers can know the location of luggage at all times in real time via hand held devices. Before GPS technology was implemented, the old system depended on paper orders dispersed on the runway. Anyone who has ever had a piece of their luggage lost while traveling knows how aggravating the recovering process could be. If a piece of luggage went awry, there was no telling how long it could take to find it.

In addition, American Airlines is conducting a trial modern computerized system in the tower for more tracking possibilities.

Although as of now this technology is only being used at DFW, if successful it will be used at other airports around the country in a matter of time.

I´d like to know if de GPS system ensures tha the luggage is on the airplane or simply gives information about the place where the luggage should be.
