Facebook’s Latest Security Flaw
Facebook has had quite a few issues when it comes to protecting people’s online security. The latest privacy flaw allowed users to get access to each other’s private live chats and even see their friends pending friend requests. To access the hack, all you had to do was go on your own profile, into the privacy settings, and the click on “preview profile.” From there you could type in the name of a user to preview how they would see your profile, but instead you got access to their profile, the live chats, and the pending friend requests.
After this was brought to Facebook’s attention, this message was sent out a few hours later:
“For a limited period of time, a bug permitted some users’ chat messages and pending friend requests to be made visible to their friends by manipulating the “preview my profile” feature of Facebook privacy settings. When we received reports of the problem, our engineers promptly diagnosed it and temporarily disabled the chat function. We also pushed out a fix to take care of the visible friend requests which is now complete. Chat will be turned back on across the site shortly. We worked quickly to resolve this matter, ensuring that once the bug was reported to us, a solution was quickly found and implemented.”
This just goes to show you, that no matter how secure you think you are online and even on your favorite trusted websites like Facebook, you still have to be careful of what you post online or discuss in private chats.
