The Future of GPS: Micro-Navigation

p90061719_highres_610x407If you’re lucky enough to have a BMW, you can experience the new in-vehicle Micro-Navigation system that takes the GPS to the next level.

The Micro-Navigation system allows one to maneuver around enclosed spaces like a parking lot or an airport gate with up-to-date maps and directions. It can even tell you where there’s an open parking spot at your destination and transfers directions to a driver’s smartphone (assuming that if you have a BMW, you also have a smartphone). It has a last-mile navigation system which sends you the shortest possible route you could take.

Drivers would look up their desired destination on the Internet, and send the micro-map to the BMW’s navigation system. The car’s technology then gleans information from cameras and GPS coordinates to make lane-specific driving directions.
