We’ve all heard the expression “caged like an animal,” well for one dog on a Long Island that was a stereo type he was not willing to fit into. He just kept going and going until he was able to escape the Veterinarian office he was locked inside of at the time. But this was no small feat, the canine had to get past a dead bolted door and 6 foot fence in order to escape.

The Empire State Building is just one of New York's landmarks located in Midtown Manhattan

After 9/11 there were many security measures implemented in New York City to ensure the safety of its citizens. From airports to local businesses, cameras and license plate scanners were scattered throughout the southern part of the city, effectively creating a technological safe-blanket around lower Manhattan. Now, Mayor Bloomberg has announced plans to increase surveillance over the areas between 30th and 60th Streets, from the Hudson to the East River.

The new expanded security network will work in the same way the old one did, with the cameras feeding data streams into a coordination center located at 55 Broadway for analysis.

Mayor Bloomberg stated “We cannot afford to be complacent,” while reminding people in the crowd that Midtown contains such historic landmarks as Grand Central Station, the Empire state building, and the United Nations buildings, all of which could be subject to terrorist attack. He then added “Do you really want to work in a building that doesn’t have security?”

All in all, the program will cost $24 million and the funds for this project will be provided from the Department of Homeland Security. The program is scheduled to begin next year with completion expected in 2011. The majority of New Yorkers should take heart knowing that the city is making great strides in trying to keep all of us safe.

bank-robber1A serial bank robber has robbed banks in Georgia, along with Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. In each of these bank robberies he is captured on the surveillance cameras sometimes posing for the camera and making no attempt to hide his face. He often sneers at the camera and brandishes his gun in the faces of the FBI officials reviewing the tape.

The FBI has decided to use the bank robbers arrogance against him, by putting his face on electronic billboards all across the southern United States. The FBI stated that the bank robbers targets have spanned for at least 600 miles north, and about 500 miles east. The FBI believes that the billboards will help in bringing this modern day John Dillinger to justice.

Ian Stafford, Former Mayor of Preesall

Female residents in Preesall, Lancashire were becoming anxious of a ladies underwear thief and were surprised to find that the lead suspect was actually the mayor of the town. Local women had begun to call police after they noticed that multiple articles of clothing began disappearing from their homes. One woman in particular was so nervous about the ongoing perverted thefts, that she installed a hidden camcorder into her home.

The video she recorded was of a half naked man breaking into her house stealing her underwear, putting them on, and then performing lewd sexual acts with them. Upon further investigation police were able to determine that the underwear thief was none other than the local Mayor Ian Stanford.  Stanford had been an independent member of the town council for years and was only recently elected as the mayor for a second term.

We don’t all have the luxury to be robbed by this guy. But perhaps there is something to be said about the simplicity of the criminal mind. They look to get in and out quickly. They may not even think about a security system or a hidden camera. Taking steps like these will help catch a burglar even when their mistakes aren’t as obvious. Keeping your home secure.
