On Sunday night, viewers were shocked and disgusted by the inappropriate actions of Kanye West as they watched the VMA’s live. After announcing Taylor Swift as the winner of “Best Female Video of the Year,” Kanye West proceeded to snatch the microphone out of her hand stating that Beyonce should have won. Having a personal opinion towards someone’s style of music is one thing, but stepping in on someone’s acceptance speech to alert the world of your disappointment is something completely different. For Taylor Swift, a moment like receiving your first VMA award is a super-special occasion that should be respected, and protected at all costs. Therefore we at BrickHouse Security have conspired a couple of ways to help keep your spotlight safe when the time comes for you.
The first thing that Taylor Swift could have benefited from is some self defense classes. It would have been a lot harder to steal the mic from a butt kicking country singer, than a 19-year-old standing on stage like a deer in head lights. Secondly, we would strongly recommended the use of either a taser or a stun gun to keep away unwanted spot light snatchers. 50,000 volts to the face is enough to make even an ego as big as Kanye West’s come back down to size.
For less violent (and less fun) ideas, Taylor could have used a fog horn to either cover up whatever Kanye was about to say or to disorient him enough to take the mic back. Finally, the most effective way to stop people from interrupting your stage time is to set-up a laser point alarm system around the stage that would alert the security team whenever someone has passed a certain perimeter. This system would have made it easier for security to react towards anyone, superstar or not, bum rushing the stage.
With these simple suggestions you can pretty much guarantee that for Taylor Swift or anyone else out there, no one will be able to steal your spotlight. Remember to please consult you state laws on taser’s and stun guns before attempting to stop anyone with 50,000 volts to the face.
